Carew/Carey

Our Carew/Carey family has roots in Soloheadbeg, Co. Tipperary. My 3rd great-grandfather Edmond Carew was born there around the 1770s and married Mary Gavin. They had 13 children, of whom all but one of those who survived to adulthood emigrated, most to Newfoundland initially. Mary herself eventually moved to Newfoundland, presumably after Edmond’s death. Their son who remained in Ireland, also named Edmond, married Mary Hanley in 1849 and they raised nine children in Soloheadbeg. Many of their descendants used the Carey surname (Carew and Carey appear to be synonymous in the Tipperary area). For further information please click on descendant list or narrative report.

I only have one Carew photo (see below) but if you have any photo(s) you would like to share (or a better quality version of one I have), I would be delighted to hear from you. Please email any pictures to HelensFamilyTrees@gmail.com. Many thanks in advance.
